Sticky Fingers Publishing Panels 2024

These panels aim to carry on some of the connections and conversations made at our inaugural publishing fair at Lewisham Arthouse back in February, by bringing together publishers, designers, writers, performers and librarians to speak about their practices. Each episode will be added below with BSL interpretation and downloadable transcripts after they have aired on our Repeater Radio show. This episode, we sit down with three publishers leading London-based, trans writing initiatives, platforms and publications to think about ‘Trans Publishing Methodologies.’ Here, Louis, P, and Donna speak about the material and political conditions that produce and sustain their publishing outputs, strategies for relating to institutions, the relationship between trans writers and trans audiences, the language of transness and what it means to collectivise around it, and the uses and limitations of publishing in these processes.

#2 ‘Library as Liberatory Practice’ with Jessa Mockridge, Ruth Beale, and Oisín Roberts (Think Big, Read Community Library)

This episode we are pleased to be joined by Jessa Mockridge, Oisín Roberts, and Ruth Beale to discuss the ‘Library as Liberatory Practice.’ Here we speak about some of the practicalities and concerns of librarianship, such as systems of reference and categorisation: how this points towards our material and political conditions, the importance of the library as a space for anyone to gather for free and stay warm, how we might use the library as space for activism care, and intimacy, and to this end, why we might want to dress up as a book, or make a book-bed.

This episode we are really excited to be joined by Ru and Saundra from Em–Dash, and Betty and Baki from Sold Out Publishing to discuss what it means to operate across and between the disciplines of ‘Designer, Maker, Publisher.’ Here, we discuss creative starting points and how they may come from reference lists, non-existent books, and angry rants. We also speak about how to operate with very little money, as well as the possibility of an Em–Dash food truck.
